Topics

Sustainable development, circular economy, reusing, recycling, valorizing, rational production, etc., are concepts that ought to be part of our lives. The more involved all sectors of society become in developing them, the better our quality of life and that of future generations will be.

The scientific community plays a crucial role in this matter since from the basic knowledge arises the technology that allows the citizen to transfer what has been developed into the laboratory.

Many scientists and technicians are currently researching the cellulose industry field so as to adapt the well-known paper production process to the above-mentioned sustainable economy concept. To this end, not only is the improvement of the processes involved in pulp and paper industry through biotechnology being undertaken, but also their modification in order to integrate the pulp mill into a biorefinery. Thus, the need for the use of each one of the wood cell wall components is imperative and, under this concept, it can be achieved.
